Nerdy Authors Diary – Tag 3 “Kunst oder Schrott?“
In diesem Tagebuch – Eintag, schreibe ich über Gedanken die mich bewegen, was die Zukunft der Kunst angeht. Angestossen durch die Kontoverse um die Midjourney KI, mit der jeder tolle Kunstwerke erschaffen kann, vorausgesetzt es gelingt ihm, einigermaßen gut zu formulieren, was die KI genau machen soll.
Allerdings muss man den Gedanken, das Programm könne eins zu eins umsetzen, was man im Kopf hat, vergessen. Midjourney kann viel, enorm viel. Aber Gedanken zu lesen, vermag es nicht.
Was also macht Midjourney interessant?
Die Antwort hängt vom jeweiligen Benutzer ab. Wer ganz klare Vorstellungen über ein Motiv hat, wird nicht bedient. Midjourney liefert Vorschläge ab, die sich aus der unendlichen Vielfalt von Online-Bildarchiven speist. Im Grunde genommen, macht die KI etwas, das Künstler schon seit Ewigkeiten tun. Es erstellt Collagen aus vorhandenen Bildern. Die Art der Collage und ihre Variationen, kann der Nutzer durch Befehle steuern. Am Ende bleibt der Kompromiss.
Die Frage, ob Midjourney eine Art Künstler ist, will ich mit NEIN! beantworten. Denn die KI besitz keine eigene Motivation.
Beuss sagte einmal: Der Mensch (jeder Mensch) sei ein Künstler. Dieses Zitats bildet die Grundlage für mein JA!, dass alle die Midjourney benutzen Künstler sind. Der Benutzer wählt aus, verwirft, steuert. Er komponiert. Daraus entsteht Kunst. Sie entsteht aus der Motivation des individuums.
Ein Beispiel.
Beethoven betätigt die Tasten an seinem Klavier. Er entscheidet ob ihm der Ton, da wo er in der Komposition sein soll, gefällt oder nicht. Das Klavier erzeugt den Ton, mittels einer komplexen Mechanik und das ist völlig ok. In der Vorstellung der KI-Kritiker müsste Beethoven seine Kompositionen Summen, um als Künstler gelten zu können.

I am moved by thoughts about the future of art. Prompted by the controversy surrounding the Midjourney AI, with which anyone can create great works of art, provided he succeeds in formulating reasonably well what the AI should do exactly.
However, you have to forget the idea that the program can implement one-to-one what you have in your head. Midjourney can do a lot, an enormous amount. But it is not able to read thoughts.
So what makes Midjourney interesting?
The answer depends on the user. If you have very clear ideas about a subject, you will not be served. Midjourney delivers suggestions that are fed from the infinite variety of online image archives. Basically, the AI does something that artists have been doing for ages. It creates collages from existing images. The type of collage and its variations, the user can control through commands. In the end, the compromise remains.
The question if Midjourney is a kind of artist, I want to answer with NO! Because the AI does not possess its own motivation.
Beuss once said: Man (every man) is an artist. This quote is the basis for my YES! that all who use Midjourney are artists. The user selects, discards, controls. He composes. From this, art emerges. It arises from the motivation of the individual.
Example.
Beethoven presses the keys on his piano. He decides whether he likes the sound where it should be in the composition or not. The piano produces the tone, by means of a complex mechanism and that is completely ok. In the imagination of the AI critics, Beethoven would have to hum his compositions to be considered an artist.
