Als Autor von Spaceopera und Scifi hat man schnell den Ruf, der Realität entflohen zu sein. Nichts könnte abwegiger sein.
Natürlich gibt es in der Science Fiction Dinge wie Raumschiffe, Aliens und allerlei technische Träumereien. Das bedeutet jedoch nicht, man würde sich in diesen Details verlieren. Die Handlungselemente von Scifi und Spacopera sind ziemlich bodenständig und reflektieren Gegebenheiten, wie man sie überall und zu jeder Zeit in jeder Gesellschaft finden kann. Ich habe in einem früheren Blog schon über den Begriff Social Fiction (SoFi) gesprochen. Ich würde sagen, dass die technische oder exotische Kulisse der Spaceopera nur ein künstlerischer Kniff ist, um kulturell übergreifend Botschaften zu vermitteln. Jemand der als Scifi-SoFi Autor glaubwürdig sein möchte, muss zwangsläufig gut in der Geschichte und und der Gegenwart verwurzelt sein, will er sich nicht lächerlich machen.
Ein Autor, der über die Zukunft der Menschen schreiben will, sollte ein profundes Wissen über Geschichte haben. Meist geht es in Zukunftsromanen um verschiedene Gesellschaftsformen. In NOMADS habe ich sehr klare feudalistische Strukturen und eine Erde, auf der gerade die Normalität zusammengebrochen ist. Hier bekämpfen sich verschiedene ideologische Gruppierungen und Warlords. Hier orientiere ich mich am Fall des Römischen Reiches und den Gegebenheiten nach dem Dreißigjährigen Krieg. Epochen, die mich eben so sehr interessieren, wie die Machtkämpfe im Inneren von Weltreichen. Ich bin weit davon entfernt mit dem erhobenen Zeigefinger zu lehren. Mir geht es darum, mein Realitätsbewußstein in eine Welt zu reflektieren, in der unsere momentanen Umstände nicht ins Gewicht fallen und ich dem Leser, ohne die Einschränkungen seiner örtlichen Gegebenheiten, zu neuen Sichtweisen verhelfen kann. Wie dieser Blick dann ausfällt, kann ich jedoch nicht beeinflussen. Ich möchte auch keine Wertung darüber abgeben. Es kann durchaus sein, dass ein Leser in die dunklen Abgründe seiner Seele blickt und sich selbst erkennt. Auch das bewerte ich nicht. Der Blick in den Spiegel gibt lediglich die Realität wieder, wobei ich wieder beim Thema bin.
Fazit
Meine Aufgabe als Autor sehe ich darin, den Spiegel so klar wie möglich zu gestalten, und das kann nicht gelingen, wenn man ein Traumtänzer ohne Bodenhaftung ist.

As a writer of space opera and scifi, you quickly get a reputation for having escaped reality. Nothing could be more far-fetched. Of course, science fiction has things like spaceships, aliens, and all sorts of technical reveries. But that doesn’t mean you get lost in these details. The plot elements of Scifi and Spacopera are pretty down to earth and reflect realities that can be found anywhere, at any time, in any society. I’ve talked about the term Social Fiction (SoFi) in a previous blog. I would say that the technical or exotic setting of space opera is just an artistic gimmick to convey messages across cultures. Someone who wants to be credible as a scifi-SoFi author must necessarily be well rooted in history and and the present, if he doesn’t want to make a fool of himself. An author who wants to write about the future of mankind should have a profound knowledge of history. Mostly, future novels are about different forms of society. In NOMADS I have very clear feudalistic structures and an earth where normality has just collapsed. Here, different ideological groups and warlords are fighting each other. Here I take my cue from the fall of the Roman Empire and the circumstances after the Thirty Years‘ War. Epochs that interest me just as much as the power struggles inside world empires. I am far from teaching with a raised forefinger. I am interested in reflecting my awareness of reality into a world, in which our momentary circumstances are not important and I can help the reader, without the restrictions of his local circumstances, to new points of view. How this view then turns out, however, I cannot influence. I also do not want to give a valuation about it. It may well be that a reader looks into the dark abysses of his soul and recognizes himself. I do not evaluate that either. The look in the mirror only reflects the reality, whereby I am again with the topic.
Conclusion
I see my task as an author in making the mirror as clear as possible, and that cannot succeed if one is a dream dancer without grounding.
