Was gibt es über Star Wars: Das Buch von Boba Fett (The Book of Boba Fett) zu sagen?
Bin ich enttäuscht?
Ich bin anfänglich sehr offen an die ganze Serie herangegangen. Die ersten beiden Folgen hatten alles, was ich von Star Wars erwarte. Tolle Bilder, das typische Star Wars Setting und rasante Action. Allerdings hat sich das Bild inzwischen ein wenig gewandelt. Warum? Für Star Wars, beziehungsweise für George Lucas waren Western und Samurai Filme immer das Vorbild. Wichtig für die Charaktere und für die Geschichten, die sich im Star Wars-Universum abspielen. Diese Vorbilder zeichneten sich immer durch kantige unangepasste Helden oder Antihelden aus. Hartgesottene Typen, die niemandem einen Gefallen taten, oder nur dann, wenn sie davon profitierten. Während des Handlungsverlaufes machten die diversen Protagonisten oft eine Wandlung durch. Das geschah in angemessenem und glaubwürdigem Tempo. Und selbst wenn sie keine Läuterung erfuhren, war es gute Unterhaltung, die ohne plakative Botschaft auskam. Was zählt, ist die Glaubwürdigkeit, mit der sich die Charaktere in ihrem Biotop bewegen.
Was macht mir Spass?
Ich ziehe durchaus meinen Spaß daraus, diesen eher unangenehmen Zeitgenossen als Voyeur bei ihren Spielchen zuzusehen. Ich tauche gerne mit ihnen in eine Welt ab, in der es vor Schurken nur so wimmelt. Und wenn der Held kein Engel ist, wen soll das schon kümmern? Mich nicht. Solange er nur interessant und schillernd ist.
Boba Fett bewegt sich in einer kriminellen Gesellschaft und kein Drehbuchautor sollte versuchen, ihn in die Rolle des Friedensengels zu drängen. Alle Himmel! Er ist kein Ghandi. Und wenn er schon eine Läuterung erfahren soll, warum fängt das schon zu Beginn der Serie an. Er hätte sich gerne etwas länger gegen diese Wandlung wehren können. Das hätte eine schöne Spannung erzeugt, die man mit einer Prise Humor erzählen könnte.
Eine Täuschung?
Im Teaser, in dem Boba Fett Bib Fortuna einfach mal so vom Thron blastert, erhielt ich den Eindruck eine kompromisslose Serie mit dunkleren Tönen zu bekommen. Eine erwachsenere Geschichte. Eine Serie, die das Milieu einer gesetzlosen Unterwelt perfekt beschreibt, ohne irgendetwas zu beschönigen.
Ok. Es sind noch drei Folgen, die die Sache noch herumbiegen können. Ich hoffe also, dass die Protagonisten noch irgendwie ihre Fasson finden, in der sie glaubwürdiger oder stimmiger wirken.

What is there to say about Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett?
Am I disappointed?
I initially approached the whole series with a very open mind. The first two episodes had everything I expect from Star Wars. Great pictures, the typical Star Wars setting and fast-paced action. However, the picture has changed a bit in the meantime. Why? For Star Wars, respectively for George Lucas, Western and Samurai movies were always the model. Important for the characters and for the stories that take place in the Star Wars universe. These role models were always characterized by edgy, non-conformist heroes or antiheroes. Hard-boiled types who did no one any favors, or only when they benefited. During the course of the plot, the various protagonists often underwent a transformation. This happened at an appropriate and believable pace. And even when they didn’t undergo any purification, it was good entertainment that got by without a striking message. What counts is the credibility with which the characters move in their biotope.
What am I enjoying?
I definitely derive my enjoyment from watching these rather unpleasant contemporaries play their games as a voyeur. I enjoy diving with them into a world teeming with villains. And if the hero is no angel, who cares? Not me. As long as he’s interesting and dazzling.
Boba Fett moves in a criminal society and no screenwriter should try to push him into the role of the angel of peace. All heavens! He’s no Ghandi. And if he’s going to undergo a purification, why does it start at the beginning of the series. He could have happily resisted this transformation a little longer. That would have created a nice tension that could be told with a touch of humor.
A deception?
In the teaser, with Boba Fett just blasting Bib Fortuna off the throne, I got the impression of getting an uncompromising series with darker tones. A more adult story. A series that perfectly describes the milieu of a lawless underworld without glossing over anything.
Ok. There are still three episodes left to bend things around. So I hope that somehow the protagonists will still find their likeness in which they seem more believable or coherent.
