Star Wars – Andor! A New Hope?

Jetzt ist ein weiterer ANDOR Trailer erschienen. Vor zwei Momaten gab er den ersten Andor Trailer und der sah schon ganz gut aus. Besaß schon der erste Trailer einen gewissen Schauwert, so ist der zweite Trailer noch beachtlicher. Musik, Schnitt und die auswahl der Szenen, geben einen Eindruck, vom Look die die Serie haben wird. Es wirkt alles sehr viel erwachsener, so wie Gary Kurz, einer der Produzenten von Star Wars und George Lucas es wollten. Andor verspricht, sich an eine Zielgruppe zu wenden, die höhere Ansprüche an Star Wars stellt, Neues erwartet, dass sich in den Kosmos einfügt und sich von den liebgewonnenen Helden trennt. Rogue One ist für mich ein Meilenstein, der zu recht über eine Milliarde Dollar eingespielt hat und neue Wege beschritten hat. Ich hoffte, dass der Erfolg für die Verantwortlichen bei Disney zum Wegweiser würde. Aber ich habe aber den Eindruck gewonnen, dass der Film von den neuen Machern des Franchise eher stiefmütterlich behandelt wird. Wenn Andor von der Geschichte und der Art der Umsetzung überzeugt, kann sich für Star Wars wieder alles zum Besseren wenden. Vor allem in künstlerischer Hinsicht. Für mich sieht es so aus, als würden die Produzenten tatsächlich an Andor glauben, denn die CGI sieht sehr viel besser aus, als die von Kenobi. Letztere hielt ich zuerst für das Aushängeschild von Disney, im Seriensektor. Aber Kenobi wirkte hölzern, schlecht konzipiert und sparsam umgesetzt.

Ich bin beeindruckt, was den Andor Trailer betrifft, aber das hat leider nicht viel zu sagen. In den Trailern wirkt alles immer irgendwie grossartig, rasant und aussergewöhlich. Das liegt vielleicht daran, dass sich die Crew am Schneidetisch mehr Zeit lässt und genug Muse hat, die vielen, dynamischen Schnitte mit treibdender Musik zu unterlegen. Etwas, dass man dann im fertigen Film sehr vermisst. Da fehlt es dann an der versprochenen Dynamik und künstlerichen Qualität, wie ich bei Kenobi schon angemerkt habe.

Andor sieht aus, wie ursprüngliches Star Wars. Wenn auch ohne Jedi und Sith. Das Star Wars Universum bietet so viele Möglichkeiten Geschichten zu erzählen, fern ab der Skywalkers. Mir war schon immer klar, dass es mehr Helden im Kampf gegen das Imperium geben muss, als Luke, Leia und Solo. Für meine Laufbahn als Autor, waren es genau diese abseitigen Geschichten, die ich für mch selber entwickelt habe, die Star Wars für mich zum Epos machten und meine Nomads Romane inspirierten. Ich bin sehr gespannt auf Andor. Sehr gespannt!

Star Wars – Andor! A New Hope?

Now another ANDOR trailer has been released. Two months ago there was the first Andor trailer and it looked quite good. If the first trailer already had a certain show value, the second trailer is even more remarkable. Music, editing and the choice of scenes give an impression of the look the series will have. It all seems much more adult, just as Gary Kurz, one of the producers of Star Wars and George Lucas wanted. Andor promises to address a target audience that has higher expectations of Star Wars, expecting new things that fit into the cosmos and parting with the heroes they have grown up with. Rogue One, for me, is a landmark film that rightfully grossed over a billion dollars and broke new ground. I hoped that its success would become a signpost for Disney executives. But I got the impression that the film was treated rather stepmotherly by the new makers of the franchise. If Andor convinces of the story and the way of realization, everything can change again for the better for Star Wars. Especially in artistic terms. It seems to me, that the producers actually believe in Andor, because the CGI looks a lot better than Kenobi’s. At first I thought kenobi was Disney’s poster child, in the series sector. But Kenobi looked wooden, poorly conceived, and sparsely realized.

I’m impressed as far as the Andor trailer goes, but that’s not saying much, unfortunately. In the trailers, everything always seems somehow grand, fast-paced and out of the ordinary. Maybe that’s because the crew takes more time at the editing table and has enough muse to underlay the many, dynamic cuts with driving music. Something that you miss a lot in the finished film. There is a lack of the promised dynamics and artistic quality, as I already noted with Kenobi.

Andor looks like the original Star Wars. Even if without Jedi and Sith. The Star Wars universe offers so many opportunities for storytelling, far away from the Skywalkers. I always knew there had to be more heroes in the fight against the Empire than Luke, Leia and Solo. For my writing career, it habe been these offbeat stories, i created in my mind, that developed myself as an author. These sidesories made Star Wars epic for me and inspired my Nomads novels. I’m very excited about Andor. Very excited!
